Radical Unschooling: the Negative Post

Years ago, I wrote a blog post called Intro to Radical Unschooling. In it, I described some of the things I like about radical unschooling. I said I’d write another blog post addressing negative things I don’t like about it. Finally, this is that post. Why Now? I heard of radical unschooling in 2007 at a […]

Speaking at InHome Homeschooling Conference: Illinois, March, 2010

I’m excited I’ve been asked to speak at the InHome Homeschooling Conference March 18-20, 2010 outside of Chicago, Illinois! I’ll speak about travel, worldschooling, transitioning into adulthood and young people earning their own money. These are the workshops I’ll be leading: These workshops are part of the adult program: especially for adults but teens are welcome: Traveling […]

Intro to Radical Unschooling

Something that’s been new for me since I got onto the national unschooling conference scene two years ago is the term and philosophy of radical unschooling. It’s based on the idea that unschooling trusts children and gives them freedom in learning and education: radical unschooling gives them the same freedom in every other area of their […]

I just got back from the Northeast Unschooling Conference this past weekend and I had a blast! There were a couple things I didn’t like during the conference but looking back now I’m just really happy about all the things I did enjoy. I noticed that my travel presentation was one of the first scheduled events and I […]

Diversity, Unschooling Conferences, and Steinbeck, MLK, and Gandhi Quotes

I was inspired by a quote from John Steinbeck to write more about race, racism, and welcoming diversity in the homeschooling scene and at unschooling conferences. I also quote Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. from a great YouTube video you can watch here. In 1961, Steinbeck talked with a wealthy white man in […]

Welcoming Diversity at Unschooling Conferences

Eli Gerzon writes about welcoming diversity at unschooling conference and into the unschooling scene as a whole. Examples are given of seeming racism against African-American unschoolers was shown at the Northeast Unschooling Conference in Massachusetts, in 2008 and at the Rethinking Education Conference in Texas in 2008. Unschooling advocate Erika Davis-Pitre, an African-American unschooling advocate’s session on diversity is referred to. There is a need to put special attention and effort on trusting and welcoming diversity, people who appear different that will have the same sort of amazing results as trusting has had in other areas of unschooling.
